Bursaries, maintenance grants and scholarships

Please go to www.gov.uk/funding-initial-teacher-training-itt-academic-year-2016-to-17 to find the most up-to-date information.

National College for Teaching & Leadership bursaries are available for some applicants. These vary according to your degree class and the subject in which you are training. It is a condition of receiving a bursary that you intend to take up a teaching post in England at the end of the programme.

The NCTL bursaries available for 2017/18 are as follows:

Student teachers may also be eligible for a non-repayable maintenance grant to help towards accommodation and other living costs. This grant is means-tested. You can apply through Student Finance England.

Please contact these organisations directly for further information.

Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees are £9,000. You may be eligible for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of tuition fees. Such loans are available through Student Finance England. More information on the tuition fee loan can be found on the Directgov website:

www.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk

You can calculate an estimate of your loan repayments by clicking on the 'Repayment Calculator' tab under Finance on this page.

You are strongly advised to apply for student finance at an early stage. You do not need a confirmed place on a programme to do this. Use your first choice of course to submit your application; you can update this later if you need to.

Accommodation

We are able to offer rooms at significantly reduced rents to those interested in living close to our sister school, Phoenix Academy, Hammersmith, during the SCITT training course.  Trainees will have their own room and use of the communal kitchen, living room and bathroom; one of the bedrooms has en-suite facilities.  Bills are not included in the rent and would need to be paid separately.

All candidates who are offered a place on our course have the opportunity to register an interest in renting a room with us.

"We believe the most effective partnerships include a range of types of schools (ideally including Special Schools and Pupil Referral Units) as well as a university partner"

- The Carter Review (January 2015)
