Pimlico London SCITT ranked third across all national teacher training providers

April 2017

It is truly wonderful to be recognised as a national leader in teacher training by the Good Teacher Training Guide 2017 and to be judged alongside such prestigious institutions as the Faculty of Education at Cambridge University and King Edward’s Consortium.

The Pimlico London SCITT is now the top London provider and this achievement will continue to serve the community well in recruiting talented and highly qualified individuals to train to teach in our inner-city schools. In a short space of time we have grown from our first cohort of nine trainees to span a wide variety of fifteen Secondary subjects and an exciting Primary programme. Both phases were recently judged OFSTED Outstanding in January 2017. Our trainees appreciate the skilled and challenging nature of their mentors and trainers during their induction year and as a result gain a fuller and more rewarding experience of how to teach young people and lead in the classroom.

We are proud to represent the growing success of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training and the valuable contribution this has made to our profession. We know that highly knowledgeable and skilled teachers make the biggest impact on pupil outcomes and we are committed to continuously developing teachers’ subject knowledge and pedagogy so that they can achieve the highest of aspirations for themselves and their pupils. We maintain great links with our alumni, who keep us informed of their progress as they become the leaders of curriculum and pastoral education in their new schools. As our teaching alliance grows to include free schools, grammar schools, pupil referral units and faith school our partnership head-teachers are pleased to report the respect our trainees have for their training year and are keen to employ them moving forwards.

The select nature of our SCITT ensures that each trainee teacher receives a bespoke programme that leads to QTS alongside a PGCE designed to promote innovation and excellence in education.

We also look forward to working with other SCITT and HEI providers and school leaders to ensure every trainee teacher gets the best start and a successful career ahead. Read the full report here.
