Our Programmes

Train to teach with the Pimlico-London SCITT

We believe that as a student teacher you should be immersed in your host schools for the majority of the time so that you can benefit from the support and guidance of subject experts. Here you will benefit from a mentor who will observe your weekly progress against the Teachers’ Standards. The majority of our schools are within Central London with two schools in nearby Hertfordshire. During the week you will come to the SCITT Head office in Central London every Tuesday afternoon in term time for training. In addition, you will gain the PGCE through one of our partner university providers.

Our ITT professional training programme has been designed to allow trainees the opportunity to take responsibility for a small number of their own classes from the start of the academic year, whilst receiving high-quality mentoring and training. As the year progresses, you will be given the opportunity to increase the number of classes you are responsible for. You will undergo a bespoke programme to meet your own individual needs.

Training Routes

Our training programme is divided into 4 different routes:

1. Unsalaried Tuition-fee Route

2. Unsalaried Tuition-fee Route (with Future Teach Scholarship)

3. Salaried School Direct Route

4. Post Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship Route

All these routes follow our year-long School-centred Initial Teacher Training programme which leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the Post Graduate / Professional Certificate in Education (PGCE).

They can only be started in September of each year.

Applicants apply for these programmes through UCAS. Read on for information about each of these routes.

All applications for our programmes should be submitted through UCAS, except if you are applying for our Assessment Only Route. Please see the details of that route here.

We have two provider codes: P58 and 1ZC.

Unsalaried Tuition Fee Route

This route is ideal for recent graduates and those fairly new to the teaching profession.

You will train for one year and gain QTS and the PGCE. You will take on just a small number of your own classes from the outset.

Many subjects have extremely competitive bursaries, and tuition fee and maintenance loans are available to cover the cost of your £9,250 tuition fee. You can read more about this in the finance section.

Unsalaried Tuition Fee Route (Future Teach Scholarship)

This route is ideal for recent graduates and those fairly new to the teaching profession.

You will train for one year and gain QTS and the PGCE. You will take on just a small number of your own classes from the outset.

After applying for the tuition-fee route through UCAS, you will then need to submit a CV and covering letter, and go through an additional interview stage. Click here to find out more.

If you are not awarded a Future Teach Scholarship, you can still train to teach with us through our tuition-fee route above.

SALARIED School Direct Route (TBAP)

We are partnered with The Tri-borough Alternative Provision Trust to deliver Salaried School Direct.

This route is ideal for graduates with experience in the classroom, and/or with an interest in working in an Alternative Provision, or specialising in Special Educational Needs.

You will train for one year and gain QTS and the PGCE.  You could be teaching up to 21 lessons from the start of September, and could be asked to take on additional duties such as attending parents' evenings, or doing break duty.

You will receive a salary on the unqualified teacher payscale, which could be up to £32,000 per year.
